Brooks Master Framework Cards
Brooks Master Framework Cards Version 1 - 11-layer real-time ES decision architecture
Purpose
Convert the Brooks trilogy from chapter knowledge into a repeatable live decision process. Use these cards for premarket review, replay, frozen-chart drills, and eventually real-time ES execution.
Frozen flow: STATE -> CONTROL -> STRENGTH -> PHASE -> LOCATION -> ATTEMPT -> FOLLOW-THROUGH -> FAILURE/TRAP -> DESTINATION -> TRADER'S EQUATION -> EXECUTION
Behavioral engines: CLAIM -> FOLLOW-THROUGH -> ACCEPTANCE/REJECTION ATTEMPT -> ACCOMPLISHMENT EXPECTATION -> FAILURE -> TRAP -> FORCED EXIT -> FUEL DAMAGE -> TEST -> FAILURE -> FLIP
Where We Are Now
Where We Are Now You have completed the trilogy study phase, built the first reference handbook, and completed the eleven isolated layers of the Master Framework. This card deck freezes Master Framework v1. The next training step is to compress it further and then test it under mixed, unprompted scenarios so that the framework becomes recognition rather than recitation.

LAYER 1 STATE
LAYER 1 STATE
What kind of market am I in? CORE IDEA State comes before setup. Classify the environment before interpreting individual bars or patterns.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT Trend or range? If trend: strong spike/tight channel or Trend: one side repeatedly accomplishes while mature/broad channel? If range: broad/tradable or opposition fails. Range: both sides repeatedly undo tight/no-trade? Is the old state stable or being each other. Breakout mode: compressed balance with damaged? unresolved direction. Transition: old state damaged, new state not yet established.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Let an attractive setup override the environment. Calling one scary bar a reversal. Treating a tight trading range like a normal setup environment.
ACTION RULE Trade the rules of the current state. Strong trend: favor continuation. Range: buy low/sell high or wait. Tight range: wait. Transition: reduce certainty and demand evidence.
State Before Setup.
Live Compression Example
Example: Mature range + huge bear bar at range low does not equal short. First ask whether the bear move actually escaped the range or is another failed breakout attempt.
LAYER 2 CONTROL
LAYER 2 CONTROL
Who currently has the actionable advantage? CORE IDEA Always-In is a real-time control conclusion: AIL, AIS, or uncertain. Control is sticky until opposing accomplishment displaces it.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT If forced to hold a swing, long or short? What was the Strong BO + FT can flip control immediately. Gradual last accepted directional move? Has the opposite side transfer often follows damage -> test -> old-side failure done enough to invalidate that advantage? -> new-side FT -> flip. Exit threshold is lower than reversal threshold.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Predicting the next AI direction and trading as if it already happened. Flipping bias on every opposite-colored bar.
ACTION RULE Retain AI until meaningful opposing accomplishment says otherwise. If old control is damaged but opposite control is not established, FLAT is valid.
Hypothesis Is Not Control.
Live Compression Example
Example: AIL -> strongest bear break -> weak bull retest -> renewed bear FT. The bull control was first damaged; AIS is declared only after bears earn the transfer.
LAYER 3 STRENGTH
LAYER 3 STRENGTH
How convincing is each side, and what did they actually accomplish? CORE IDEA Separate pressure, effort, accomplishment, urgency, and follow-through. The most important variable is accomplishment.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT Pressure: accumulating presence. Effort: visual force. High effort + high accomplishment = real strength. Accomplishment: structure/value actually changed. High effort + low accomplishment = possible Urgency: traders will not wait for better price. FT: claim exhaustion/failure. Moderate effort + high accepted or not. accomplishment = quiet but meaningful strength.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Equating bar size with strength. Ignoring the quality of the opposing response. Calling repeated effort 'control' when nothing important changed.
ACTION RULE Ask: what did all that effort buy them? Pressure changes expectation; accomplishment changes conclusion.
Pressure Warns. Accomplishment Confirms.
Live Compression Example
Example: Giant bear spike at range low immediately rejected = high effort, low accomplishment. Three moderate bear bars breaking a major HL and holding below = much more meaningful.
LAYER 4 PHASE
LAYER 4 PHASE
Where are we in the life cycle of this move? CORE IDEA The same bar or setup means different things early versus late. Track spike -> early channel -> mature channel -> climax/transition -> range -> new breakout.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT Fresh breakout/spike? Early directional channel? Early strength usually favors continuation. Mature Mature/broad channel? Repeated climax? Time trends show deeper pullbacks, more overlap, correction? Range transition? Resumption or reversal? diminishing accomplishment, profit taking, and greater countertrend pressure.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Treating every late trend bar as fresh strength. Treating every climax as an automatic reversal. Continuing to buy every H2 as if a 50-bar trend were still bar 5.
ACTION RULE Use phase to calibrate how aggressively to trust continuation. Climax means correction/transition risk, not automatic reversal.
Same Pattern, Different Phase, Different Equation.
Live Compression Example
Example: Largest bull bar on bar 3 can be breakout strength. The same bar after 50 bull bars, third push and TCL overshoot may be a buy climax.
LAYER 5 LOCATION
LAYER 5 LOCATION
Even if my direction is right, is this a good place to act? CORE IDEA Control gives direction; location determines whether the current price is favorable for expressing that direction.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT Range extreme or middle? EMA in trend or flat range? Trend-line side often favors with-trend entries; Trend line / trend-channel line? Breakout point? Prior TCL/excess side can become profit-taking or H/L? Yesterday/overnight levels? Measured move? countertrend territory. BO points are decision zones. Magnet? Magnets are destinations before they are reversal signals.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Turning every horizontal line into a trade. Shorting AIS at the bottom of a mature range. Treating an EMA in barbwire like trend support/resistance.
ACTION RULE A level is an area of interest, not a signal. Let state/phase/control interpret the level, then use PA at the level to decide.
Direction + Location + Timing + Risk.
Live Compression Example
Example: AIS at range low may still be a poor short. A failed downside BO at that location can be more attractive than mechanically following AIS.
LAYER 6 ATTEMPT
LAYER 6 ATTEMPT
What is the market trying to accomplish right now? CORE IDEA A pattern is a behavioral attempt: break out, continue, test/pull back, reverse, defend a level, or reach a destination.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT What objective is each side pursuing? What would H1/H2 and L1/L2 are first/second attempts. Wedges success look like? Is this first or second attempt? Is the are repeated attempts. DT/DB/HH/LH can all be tests same objective being tried repeatedly with diminishing of prior control. A BOPB is opposition trying and failing accomplishment? to invalidate a breakout.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Pattern-first thinking. Counting pushes without asking whether each push accomplished more or less. Treating geometry as more important than function.
ACTION RULE Before naming the pattern, say what participants are trying to accomplish and what result would validate or invalidate that objective.
Behavior First. Label Second.
Live Compression Example
Example: 'Third bull continuation attempt at mature resistance with diminishing progress' is more informative than simply saying 'wedge.'
LAYER 7
LAYER 7
FOLLOW-THROUGH / ACCEPTANCE Did the market agree with the attempt? CORE IDEA The initial move is a claim. Follow-through is the market's vote. Acceptance can occur through price extension or time spent beyond a level without rejection.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT After the claim: strong FT, weak FT, rejection, or Immediate acceptance = strong continuation. Delayed unresolved? Does a pullback hold? Can the other side acceptance = BO -> test/opposition -> test fails -> reclaim the breakout point? Does price remain resumption. Lack of opposition can itself be accepted beyond the level? acceptance.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Calling a huge breakout successful because it looks impressive. Treating one doji after a BO as automatic failure. Ignoring time acceptance.
ACTION RULE Classify attempts as accepted, rejected, or unresolved. Displacement alone is not acceptance.
Breakout = Claim. Follow-Through = Vote.
Live Compression Example
Example: Huge bull BO -> doji -> bear bar still above old range -> sideways above BO -> bear test fails -> strong bull resumption = delayed but increasingly strong acceptance.
LAYER 8 FAILURE / TRAPS
LAYER 8 FAILURE / TRAPS
What expected event failed, and who may now be wrong? CORE IDEA Failure is a violated reasonable expectation. Credible failures create information; trapped participants may be forced to exit and add fuel to the opposite move.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT What should have happened? Did it? Who acted on Failed BO, failed reversal, failed continuation, failed the failed idea? Where would they realize they are test, failure of failure. 'Trapped in' = wrong position. wrong? Is the opposite move large enough to justify 'Trapped out' = exited correct trade and must chase only an exit, or an actual reversal? back.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Inventing trapped traders without evidence. Calling every stop hit a stop hunt. Automatically reversing after your trade fails.
ACTION RULE Use traps only after a credible entry opportunity and visible failure. Exit threshold < reversal threshold. Failure of failure often resumes the original claim.
Expectation -> Failure -> Trap -> Forced Exit -> Fuel.
Live Compression Example
Example: Strong AIL -> attractive bear reversal triggers -> no FT -> bulls break above it. Countertrend bears may cover while trend bulls re-enter, fueling continuation.
LAYER 9 DESTINATION
LAYER 9 DESTINATION
If my thesis is correct, where should price reasonably go? CORE IDEA A complete thesis needs a realistic destination. Think nearest destination -> secondary destination -> extension.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT Nearest prior extreme? Range midpoint/opposite side? In trends, first destination is often the prior extreme. In Measured move? Start of channel? Prior H/L? ranges, first objective may be return to value/midrange. Breakout test? Is there unfinished business just Magnets can create vacuum moves. The reaction at beyond the entry? the destination is often more informative than the approach.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Using a distant target the evidence has not earned. Treating unfinished business as certainty. Holding a bad trade because 'the magnet must be touched.'
ACTION RULE Nearest business first. Promote farther targets only when new PA earns them. If price repeatedly cannot progress toward the expected destination, reassess.
Destination Is Conditional, Not Prophecy.
Live Compression Example
Example: Failed bear BO below a range -> first target back inside, then midpoint. Only strong bull acceptance beyond midpoint earns the opposite range extreme as a serious next objective.
LAYER 10 TRADER'S EQUATION
LAYER 10 TRADER'S EQUATION
Is this opportunity worth risking money on? CORE IDEA A valid setup is not automatically a valid trade. Combine probability, realistic reward, and structural risk.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT Probability from the whole story. Reward from Structure determines stop; risk budget determines destination. Risk from structural invalidation. What is size. Confirmation often improves probability while the expected value after costs and uncertainty? reducing remaining reward. Low win-rate trades can be excellent if reward is large enough.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Artificially tightening a stop to manufacture R:R. Averaging because price is cheaper. Borrowing reward from an unearned distant target. Using win rate alone.
ACTION RULE Take only positive equations. Add only if new evidence improves the equation. Recalculate after entry as probability, destination, and remaining risk change.
Better Price Does Not Automatically Mean Better Trade.
Live Compression Example
Example: 55% chance to make 2R before losing 1R = +0.65R expectancy before costs. If the structural stop is too wide for the account, reduce size, not the stop.
LAYER 11 EXECUTION / WAIT
LAYER 11 EXECUTION / WAIT
What action is justified right now? CORE IDEA All analysis collapses into: ENTER, WAIT, HOLD, EXIT, REVERSE, or DO NOTHING.
LIVE SCAN EVIDENCE TO RESPECT ENTER when thesis + trigger + invalidation + EXIT when premise/equation materially deteriorates, destination + equation align. WAIT when more even before stop. REVERSE only when old thesis is information is needed. DO NOTHING when no valid invalidated and the opposite trade independently has a environment exists. HOLD while premise remains positive equation. intact.
COMMON EXECUTION ERROR Chasing missed moves. Converting swings to scalps from fear. Averaging into losses without new evidence. Treating breakeven as market structure. Revenge trading after a stop-out.
ACTION RULE Use the pretend-flat test. Every add must independently earn its existence. Decide scalp vs swing before entry. A good process trade can lose; a bad process trade can win.
My Job Is Not To Trade. My Job Is To Take Only Justified Risk.
Live Compression Example
Example: Valid AIL H2 -> good FT -> hold through harmless bear bars. If bears then break BO support with FT, exit long. Do not reverse until an independent AIS short thesis earns a positive equation.
One-Page Real-Time Compression
One-Page Real-Time Compression When the eleven layers become fluent, you should not recite them mechanically. Your live narration should compress the same logic into a short market sentence.
1 STATE Trend / range / BO mode / transition?
2 CONTROL AIL / AIS / uncertain?
3 STRENGTH Pressure, effort, accomplishment, urgency, FT?
4 PHASE Spike / early channel / mature channel / climax / range?
5 LOCATION Good place to act or poor location?
6 ATTEMPT What are traders trying to accomplish?
7 FT / ACCEPTANCE Accepted, rejected, or unresolved?
8 FAILURE / TRAP What failed and who may now be wrong?
9 DESTINATION Nearest business, secondary target, extension?
10 TRADER'S EQUATION Does probability/reward justify risk?
11 EXECUTION Enter / wait / hold / exit / reverse / do nothing?
Target live sentence: "Mature AIL channel, bull strength fading, third push into MM/TCL resistance, continuation attempt fails with poor FT, bears break structure, bull retest weak; nearest downside destination provides favorable equation - possible AIS short."
Next training objective: move from framework recall to fast recognition. The next formal work is Phase III Knowledge Compression, followed by Phase IV mixed active recall. No new theory unless a weakness in the framework is exposed.
